The Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established in accordance with Decree No.1235 of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 10 February 2017. The Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan is the central body of executive authority involved in the development of a unified state policy on veterinarian (except for veterinarian services) and phytosanitary control at all stages of the food chain (food safety control facilities-food products, production, procurement, processing, packing, storage, transportation, circulation of secondary processing substances and drinking water, including their import and export, transit and other customs operation, consumption, use and disposal in public catering and service sectors), food safety and protection of the rights of consumers, as well as production, procurement, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, circulation, use and disposal of livestock and vegetation, raw material of animal origin, veterinarian preparation, feed and feed additives, pesticides, biological preparation, agro-chemical substances and other means of vegetation protection. The agency responsible for the execution of the above-mentioned policy and for exercising state control over the mentioned area.
The agency is also expected to be responsible for issuing food safety, veterinarian and phytosanitary certificates and other licenses and permit in accordance with applicable legislation.
