Any food business has subject to import Food to Lao PDR, shall provide all documents that require in form and submit to Food and Drug Authority and other concerned institutions according to the food import requirement in order to get approval and obtain the import permit. The Procedure for Import of Food is as follows:

                                                                                                  1. Registration of food (only the risk food)
All food businesses obtained the permit to operate a business of food production shall register all products with processing procedure, formula and ingredients with Food and Drug Department to take consideration of issuing the registration of food products.  For registration to imported food, the registration will be undertaken for only the risk food and the list of Risk food will be determined separately. Currently, Food and Drug Department is updating a list of risk food and will declare soon.

2. Import Permit (Food)

2. An importer shall submit documents to the reception desk at the Food and Drug Department, Ministry of Health
3. Officers check the completion and accuracy
- In case of completion and accuracy of documents, the Food and Drug Department will consider issuing an import permit of food 
- In case of incompletion of documents, the Food and Drug Department shall inform the entrepreneurs to resubmit the documents.
4. Once received complete and accurate documents, the Food and Drug Department shall sign and issue an import permit of food in 03 official days.

3. Inspection and Customs Clearance for Imports at International border checkpoint.

1. Once received Import Permit (Food), an importer must present to the Ministry of Health Inspector at the international border checkpoint when importing the goods.
2. Ministry of Health Inspector shall check the completion and accuracy of documents and products.
3. Once received complete and accurate documents from Ministry of Health Inspector, an importer must present Import Permit (Food) to the Customs Inspector at the international border checkpoint when importing the goods for Customs Clearance for Imports

5. After the document was completed and accurate,  Customs inspector grant an import permit
