Vietnam is going to temporarily stop import and re-export natural timber (logs and stacks) of Lao PDR as defined in the Lao PDR’s Customs Nomenclature as follows: 4403, 4407 in accordance with notification on the list of import and export goods of Vietnam No. 65/2017/TT-BCT, dated 27 June 2017 and notification No. 44/2018/TT-BCT, dated 15 November 2018.

Notification No. 44/2018/TT-BCT also aims to inform that Vietnam is going to temporarily stop import and re-export natural timber (logs and stacks) from January 01, 2019 until October 24, 2023. In addition, notification No. 44/2018/TT-BCT in compliance with the policy of Lao government and PM’s Order on Enhancing Strictness on the Management and Inspection of Timber Exploitation, Timber Movement and Timber Business No. 15/PM dated 13 May 2016. This order stipulates that log, big sawed timber, general sawed timber, spat wood, root, stump, branch, perennial plant, ornamental plant exploited from the natural forest that aims to export overseas, including approved projects but has not been implemented are now strictly banned for export. Timbers shall be processed as the finished wooden product according to standards issued by Ministry of Industry and Commerce before export
