The imports and exports of Lao PDR in December 2022 were valued at US$ 1,088 million, including US$532 million in export and approximately US$556 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$23 million.

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$532 million. The main value exports included USD 67 million in mixed and bar gold, USD 64 million in cassava, USD 40 million in paper and paper products, USD 36 million in rubber, USD 32 million in salt, USD 26 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 25 million in copper ore, USD 24 million in sugar, USD 23 million in clothing and USD 23 million in bananas.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$ 556 million. The main value imports included USD 88 million in diesel, USD 51 million in mechanical equipment, USD 31 million in land vehicles, USD 26 million in iron and steel products, USD 26 million in beverages, USD 21 million in gasoline, USD 20 million in auto parts, USD 18 million in wood pulp and paper, USD 17 million in plastic appliances and USD 16 million in electrical appliances and equipment.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 195 million, Vietnam USD 116 million, Thailand USD 103 million, Australia USD 48 million, and USA USD 09 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 321 million, China USD 134 million, Vietnam USD 48 million, USA USD 13 million and Japan USD 7 million.

 

The December 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
