The imports and exports of Lao PDR in March 2023 were valued at US$ 1,236 million, including US$ 630 million in export and approximately US$ 606 million in imports, therefore, the trade surplus was US$ 25 million.

 

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$ 630 million. The main value exports included USD 71 mixed gold and gold bars, USD 49 million in casava, USD 48 million in paper and paper appliances, USD 47 million in iron ore, USD 41 million in copper ore, USD 37 million in wood pulp and paper scraps, USD 36 million in salt, USD 22 million in bananas, USD 20 million in clothes, and USD 19 million beverage.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$ 606 million. The main value imports included USD 92 million in diesel, USD 45 million in mechanical equipment, USD 44 million in land vehicles, USD 35 million in electrical and electronic equipment, USD 26 million in steel appliances, USD 24 million in plastic appliances, USD 23 million in auto parts, USD 23 million in gasoline, USD 20 million in beverages and USD 20 million in wood pulp and paper appliances.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 269 million, Vietnam USD 120 million, Thailand USD 104 million, Australia USD 39 million, and Singapore USD 16 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 292 million, China USD 187 million, Vietnam USD 28 million, USA USD 17 million and Japan USD 14 million.

 

The March 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
