The imports and exports of Lao PDR in 2022 were valued at US$ 15,000 million, including US$ 8,198 million in export and approximately US$ 6,808 million in imports, therefore, the trade surplus was US$ 1,390 million.

The total exports were approximately US$ 8,198 million. The main value exports included USD 2,358 million in electricity, USD 805 million in gold and bullion, USD 491 million in paper and paper products, USD 360 million in pulp and paper waste, USD 336 million in gold ore, USD 336 million in rubber, USD 329 million in cassava, USD 320 million in salt, USD 254 million in clothing and USD 236 million in sugar.
The main import category
The total imports were approximately US$ 6,808 million. The main value imports included USD 953 million in diesel, USD 572 million in mechanical equipment, USD 454 million in land vehicles, USD 323 million in pulp and paper, USD 286 million in precious or semi-precious stones, USD 248 million in beverages, USD 238 million in gasoline, USD 227 million in iron, USD 225 million in sugar and USD 206 million in plastic products.

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included Thailand USD 2,940 million, China USD 2,238 million Vietnam USD 1,355 million, Australia USD 395 million, and Cambodia USD 185 million.

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 3,377 million, China USD 1,646 million, Vietnam USD 423 million, USA USD 311 million and Switzerland USD 282 million.
