In order to enhance the capacity of Lao Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to access international markets, The Ministry of Industry and Commerce together with the International Trade Centre (ITC), has jointly implemented a project aimed at improving export readiness and strengthening trade-related capabilities. This initiative focuses on enhancing trade information systems and improving the ability of MSMEs in Lao PDR to engage in export activities.

The project has been implemented in close cooperation with ITC and relevant stakeholders to develop tools, knowledge, and skills for MSMEs in key sectors, particularly in agriculture, industry, and services. A total of three pilot provinces have been selected, namely Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang Province, and Champasak Province, to support entrepreneurs and businesses in better understanding export requirements, market access conditions, and trade procedures.

The activities include capacity-building training, awareness-raising, and the provision of practical guidance on export-related regulations, standards, and procedures. The project also emphasizes improving access to up-to-date and reliable trade information, reducing time and costs related to compliance, and supporting sustainable business development.

In addition, the project contributes to strengthening coordination between the public and private sectors, enhancing transparency, and improving the dissemination of trade information. This includes the development and promotion of digital tools and platforms to facilitate access to trade-related information and services.

At present, the implementation of the project has shown positive results. MSMEs in Lao PDR have benefited from improved access to trade information on import and export requirements, particularly for trade with regional and international markets. Through cooperation between Lao PDR and ITC, the project has helped enhance understanding of trade regulations and procedures.
