Lao PDR is a country whose produce of cassava enters industrial production, largely through the importation of several hundred tons of species from Thailand, Vietnam and China each year which increases the risk of pest outbreak, a highly destructive insect, within country. In order to prevent and protect this occurrence, there is a need to understand the background and biological characteristic of the cassava pest and introduce measures to control the outbreak from the source to production management and with strictly surveillance at all times. Contamination through an outbreak and a large spread within the country will damage the country’s economic assets and affect people’s livelihoods.  Vientiane Capital and the Provincial Plantation Division have been assigned as the focal point to coordinate with the District Agriculture and Forestry Promotion office, local authorities and related sectors to quickly urge ethnic people to exercise surveillance and pay more attention to the maintenance of their farms and also implement a number of necessary technical instructions such as:

(1)   Gain background information on the cassava pest;

(2)   Implement measures to control and manage the species;

(3)   Implement practical measures to prevent  the pest in cassava farms and;

(4)   Exercise monitoring, surveillance and information dissemination.
