The LAO National Accreditation Bureau
Within the Department of Standardization and Metrology, the technical infrastructure for the Lao National Accreditation Bureau (LNAB) is being formed. The mission of LNAB is to provide formal recognition of technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories, quality management certification bodies, inspection bodies and producers and providers of proficiency testing in accordance with international accreditation standards and procedures.
The main goal of the Lao National Accreditation Bureau is to provide reliable, credible voluntary accreditation services that meet industry needs and that are in compliance with international standards and guides.
The LNAB will provide the following accreditation functions:

To perform functions of the national body for accreditation

To provide accreditation services for accreditation of laboratories, certification bodies and inspection bodies in compliance with international standards and best practices

To undertake surveillance of accredited laboratories, inspection and certification bodies, in accordance with international standards and practices

To organize and coordinate laboratory inter-comparison activities within the country

To maintain a formal register of accredited laboratories, certification bodies, results of measurement inter-comparisons, results of conformity assessment, inspection bodies, producers and providers of reference materials

To support achievement of the international recognition of testing protocols issued by accredited conformity assessment bodies

To participate in the activities of regional and international accreditation organizations
- One of the primary long term objectives of LNAB is to achieve mutual recognition of accreditation and certification results, thus facilitating access to international markets by promoting cross-border stakeholder confidence and acceptance of accredited test data and certified results.
The Accreditation Bureau will be seeking candidates to become certified accreditation assessors. Qualified technical specialist will be solicited from stakeholder Ministries, academia and the private sector.
