The Workshop was held on 23-26 April 2018 at Lao Plaza Hotel, Vientiane Capital, joined by participants from the International Custom Border Checkpoint, Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge I and Wattay International Airport such as customs officers, plant and animal quarantine officers, food and drug inspectors, representatives from Department of Planning and Cooperation, and Secretariat of Chemicals, Biomass, Nuclear, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Department of Import and Export. The 03 days meeting was chaired by Mr. Soulinhon Philavong, Director General of Department of Import and Export.
The objective of this workshop is to give a better understanding of Dual-use Items and to present European Union's lessons for the management of Dual-use Items and cross-border transportation. The meeting gave detail explanations on the Strategic Trade Control Enforcement (STCE) Implementation Guide, Interdiction, Specialized Commodity Module: Chemicals, Biological Materials, Radioactive Materials, Dual-Use Materials, Weapons and Military Equipment, and Risk Assessment, Profiling, and Targeting of STCE.
Therefore, Department of Import and Export has informed that in the near future plans, there will be the establishment of STCE Working Group and the 03rd workshop on the Lao PDR National Dual-Use Trade Controls' Legal Framework and Perspective of Enhancement.
