Pursuant to the Announcement of Royal Thai Embassy, Vientiane No. 29001/21 on the Validity of Lao driver license in Thailand, Thai and Lao smart card driver license can be used interchangeably in accordance with the agreement on the Recognition of Domestic Driver license  Issued by ASEAN Countries 1985. In case that driver license is not written in English version or written in Lao and French, the driver license shall be translated into English which certified by legislation (the authentication of documents) then the driver license can be used in Thailand and other ASEAN countries.
