According to the letter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs no. 7170 / MFA, date 23 September 2019 and the Directive letter of Prime Minister, date 09 October 2019. The Prime Minister Office has issued the notification 1845 / PMO on 16 October 2019 to seven provinces in order to close the visa service units at the international checkpoints of the provinces.
The 8 provinces are Phongsaly, Huaphanh, Xiengkhuang, Xayyabouly, Bolikhamxay, Khammouane, Savannakhet, and Attapue. There are 9 visa service units where are located at the international checkpoints, including the Pang Theek International Checkpoint (Phongsaly Province); Nam Suoy International Checkpoint (Houaphanh Province); Nam Kan International Checkpoints (Xieng Khouang); Nam Nguen International Checkpoints (Sayaboury Province); Nam Houng Friendship Bridge International Checkpoint (Sayaboury Province); Nam Pao International Checkpoints (Bolikhamxay Province); Na Pau International Checkpoint (Khammouan Province); Savannakhet International Airport (Savannakhet Province); Phou Kua International Checkpoint (Attapeu Province).
Additionally, the notification has mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will play a key role and be a focal point in leading and implementing to close the nine visa service units.
