The monthly import and export of January 2020 achieved US$ 890 million. The exports value US$ 410 million and imports value US$ 480 million and the trade deficit was approximately US$ 70 million.
The main export category
The total exports in January were approximately US$ 410 million. The exports included US$ 49 million of cassava, US$ 46 million of gold ore, US$ 35 million of copper and copper products, US$ 26 million of cows, buffalos, US$ 25 million of pulpwood and paper, US$ 22 million of gold, plums, US$ 21 million of clothing, US$ 17 million of carts, camera parts, US$ 17 million of fruits (watermelons, tamarind, mangoes ...) and US$ 17 million of beverages (water, juice, energy ...).
The main import category
The total of imports in January was approximately US$ 480 million. The imports included US$ 54 million of electrical appliances and accessories, US$ 45 million of diesel, US$ 30 million of mechanical equipment (except motor vehicles), US$ 29 million of land vehicles (other than motorcycles, tractors), US$ 27 million of livestock, US$ 23 million of steel and steel products, US$ 17 million of beverage (water, steam, energy ...), US$ 16 million of photographic equipment, US$ 15 million of electric cable, cables and US$ 15 million of plastic products.
The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR
The main export countries of Lao PDR included Thailand US$ 135 million, China US$ 115 million Vietnam US$ 83 million, Switzerland US$ 17 million and Japan US$ 8 million.
The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR
The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand US$ 268 million, China US$ 113 million, Vietnam US$ 50 million, United States US$ 11 million and Japan US$ 8 million.
The January statistic does not include the value of export electric power, therefore, we will update later when it is available.
