The annual value of Lao PDR's imports and exports in 2021 achieved approximately USD 13,000 million, including the value of exports was USD 7,000 million, the value of imports was USD 6,000 million and the trade surplus was about 1,000 million US dollars.

The main export category

The export value is approximate USD 7,000 million which the main products were: USD962 million of ore gold/gold bars, USD530 million of paper and paper product, USD330 millions of ore gold, USD300 millions of wood pulp and waste paper, USD270 millions of rubber, USD265 millions of cassava, USD243 millions of iron ore, USD 235 millions of bananas, USD190 million of garments, USD150 million of electrical appliances and equipment, USD150 million of fertilizer, USD122 millions of camera parts and USD101 million of footwear.

The main import category

The import value is approximate USD6,000 million which the main products were: USD463 million of vehicles (excluding motorcycles, tractors),  USD448 millions of diesel, USD372 millions of mechanical equipment (excluding motor vehicles), USD271 millions of precious or semi-precious stones, USD220 millions of spare parts (including plastic, mirror, chain,…) ... , USD217 millions of steel and steel products, magnetics, USD209 millions of pharmaceuticals, USD187 millions of plastic products, USD175 millions of electrical appliances, USD146 millions of electrical appliances/cables, USD132 millions of gasoline and premium gasoline, USD123 millions of scrap and waste from food, USD109 millions of camera equipment, USD100 millions of wood and wood products.

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China US$2,221 million, Thailand US$ 2,187 million, Vietnam US$1,220 million, Australia US$ 348 million and Switzerland US$ 116 million.

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand US$ 3,000 million, China US$ 1,255 million, Vietnam US$ 499 million, USA US$ 250 million and Japan US$ 148 million.

 

The annual 2021 statistic does not include the value of export electric power, therefore, we will update later when it is available.
