The imports and exports of Lao PDR in January 2022 valued US$ 1,155 million, including US$ 598 million of export and approximately US$ 557 million of import, therefore, the trade surplus was US$ 41 million.
The main export category
The total exports were approximately US$ 598 million. The main value exports included US$ 112 million of mix gold (gold bars), US$ 42 million of paper and paper products, US$ 20 million of copper ore, US$ 26 million of wood pulp and waste paper, US$ 28 million of rubber, US$ 80 million of cassava, US$ 25 million of banana, US$ 19 million of clothing, glass and glassware US$ 12 million of and US$ 9 million of cassava starch.
The main import category
The total imports were approximately US$ 557 million. The main value imports included US$ 40 millions of road vehicles (other than motorcycles, tractors), US$ 52 millions of diesel, US$ 37 millions of mechanical equipment (other than motor vehicles), US$ 17 millions of auto parts (including tires, goggles, chains ...), US$ 11 millions of electrical wiring/cables, US$ 15 millions of plastics, US$ 15 millions of gasoline and premium gasoline, US$ 9 millions of food wastes and waste from the food industry, US$ 11 millions of chemical products and US$ 14 millions of pharmaceutical products.
The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR
The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China US$ 217 million, Vietnam US$ 110 million, Thailand US$ 141 million, Australia US$ 42 million and Japan US$ 12 million.
The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR
The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand US$ 254 million, China US$ 108 million, Vietnam US$ 27 million, Switzerland US$ 59 million and USA US$ 41 million.
The January 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power, therefore, we will update later when it is available.
