The imports and exports of Lao PDR in July 2022 were valued at US$968 million, including US$427 million in export and approximately US$541 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$114 million.
The main export category
The total exports were approximately US$427 million. The main value exports included US$54 million in paper and paper products, US$44 million in gold, gold, US$34 million in wood pulp and paper scraps, US$34 million in gold ore, US$29 million in rubber, US$23 million in iron ore, US$ 22 million in clothing, US$19 million in beverages (water, soft drinks, energy drinks...), US$17 million in sugar, and US$13 million in footwear.
The main import category
The total imports were approximately US$541 million. The main value imports included US$79 million in diesel, US$56 million in mechanical equipment (except vehicle mechanics), US$35 million in wood and paper scraps, US$34 million in land vehicles (except motorcycles, tractors), US$22 million in beverages (water, soft drinks, power...), US$22 million in gasoline, special gasoline, US$21 million in steel and steel products, US$ 18 million in live animals, US$ 18 million in electrical wires, cables and US$ 14 million in plastic products.

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China US$ 162 million, Vietnam US$ 105 million, Thailand US$ 47 million, Australia US$ 30 million, and Singapore US$ 13 million.

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand US$ 264 million, China US$ 142 million, Vietnam US$ 34 million, USA US$ 31 million, and Japan US$ 13 million.
The July 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
