The imports and exports of Lao PDR in August 2022 were valued at US$ 1,020 million, including US$427 million in export and approximately US$593 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$166 million.
The main export category
The total exports were approximately US$427 million. The main value exports included US$63 million in gold and gold bullion, US$49 million in paper and paper products, US$32 million in copper ore, US$30 million in wood pulp and paper scraps, US$25 million in rubber, US$23 million in fertilizer, US$21 million in clothing, US$21 million in beverages, US$15 million in sugar and US$14 million in footwear.
The main import category
The total imports were approximately US$593 million. The main value imports included US$89 million in diesel, US$65 million in mechanical equipment, US$44 million in land vehicles, US$33 million in wood pulp and paper scraps, US$27 million in gasoline, US$ 22 million in beverages, US$17 million in plastic utensils, US$17 million in precious or semi-precious stones, US$16 million in live animals and US$14 million in steel and iron and steel products.

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China US$ 173 million, Vietnam US$ 81 million, Thailand US$ 46 million, Australia US$ 28 million, and Hongkong US$ 16 million.

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand US$ 290 million, China US$ 145 million, Vietnam US$ 37 million, USA US$ 25 million, and Japan US$ 17 million.
