The imports and exports of Lao PDR in October 2022 were valued at US$ 1,074 million, including US$422 million in export and approximately US$652 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$230 million.

 

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$422 million. The main value exports included USD 45 million in mixed gold and gold bars, USD 41 million in paper and paper products, USD 36 million in rubber, USD 31 million in potassium salt, USD 30 million in gold ore, USD 18 million in sugar, USD 17 million in clothing, USD 15 million in iron ore, USD 14 million in bananas and USD 13 million in shoes.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$652 million. The main value imports included USD 104 million in diesel, USD 75 million in precious or semi-precious stones, USD 43 million in mechanical equipment, USD 34 million in land vehicles, USD 29 million in pulp and paper, USD 25 million in steel and iron or steel products, USD 25 million in beverages, USD 25 million in gasoline, USD 22 million in electrical appliances and electrical equipment, USD 19 million in car spare parts.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 177 million, Vietnam USD 97 million, Thailand USD 45 million, Australia USD 22 million, and India USD 14 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 308 million, China USD 150 million, Switzerland USD 75, Vietnam USD 32 million and USA USD 21 million.

 

The October 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
