The imports and exports of Lao PDR in January 2023 were valued at US$ 935 million, including US$461 million in export and approximately US$474 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$13 million.

 

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$461 million. The main value exports included USD 89 million in casava, USD 59 million in mixed gold and goal bars, USD 29 million in ore copper, USD 27 million in salt, USD 27 million in paper and paper products, USD 24 million in bananas, USD 23 million in clothes, USD 17 million in pulp and paper scraps, USD 16 million in sugar and USD 13 million in iron ore.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$ 474 million. The main value imports included USD 93 million in diesel, USD 34 million in mechanical equipment, USD 32 million in land vehicles, USD 21 million in gasoline, USD 20 million in auto spare parts, USD 19 million in steel and steel products, USD 16 million in plastic products, USD 14 million in electrical wires and cables, USD 12 million in electric appliances and electrical equipment and USD 11 million in wood pulp and paper waste.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 156 million, Thailand USD 128 million, Vietnam USD 65 million, Australia USD 41 million, and Switzerland USD 14 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 255 million, China USD 121 million, Vietnam USD 21 million, USA USD 14 million and Australia USD 12 million.

 

The January 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
