The imports and exports of Lao PDR in April 2023 were valued at US$ 947 million, including US$465 million in export and approximately US$482 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$17 million.

 

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$465 million. The main value exports included USD 87 million in mixed gold, bullion, USD 48 million in salts, USD 42 million in paper and paper products, USD 31 million in gold ore, USD 25 million in iron ore, USD 23 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 21 million in cassava, USD 20 million in bananas, USD 16 million in beverages and USD 15 million in rubber.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$ 482 million. The main value imports included USD 71 million in diesel, USD 41 million in land vehicles, USD 38 million in mechanical equipment, USD 22 million in gasoline, USD 22 million in steel and steel products, USD 22 million in beverages, USD 19 million in wood pulp and paper waste, USD 18 million in plastic products, USD 16 million in electrical appliances and electrical equipment and USD 16 million in auto parts.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 196 million, Thailand USD 60 million, Vietnam USD 82 million, Australia USD 35 million, and Singapore USD 26 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 241 million, China USD 144 million, Vietnam USD 29 million, USA USD 14 million and Japan USD 12 million.

 

The April 2022 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
