The imports and exports of Lao PDR in April 2023 were valued at US$ 1,086 million, including US$520 million in export and approximately US$567 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$47 million.

 

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$520 million. The main value exports included USD 70 million in mixed gold and bullion, USD 46 million in salts, USD 43 million in paper and paper products, USD 39 million in iron ore, USD 38 million in gold ore, USD 26 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 21 million in beverage, USD 20 million in clothing, USD 18 million in sugar and USD 16 million in banana.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$ 567 million. The main value imports included USD 79 million in diesel, USD 47 million in land vehicles, USD 40 million in mechanical equipment, USD 30 million in steel and steel products, USD 29 million in beverages, USD 23 million in auto parts, USD 22 million in wood pulp and paper waste, USD 21 million in gasoline, USD 19 million in electronic lines and cables and USD 18 million in plastic products.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 203 million, Vietnam USD 108 million, Thailand USD 59 million, Australia USD 30 million, and India USD 17 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 282 million, China USD 164 million, Vietnam USD 31 million, USA USD 17 million and Japan USD 13 million.
