The imports and exports of Lao PDR in August 2023 were valued at US$ 980 million, including US$ 446 million in export and approximately US$534 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$ 88 million.

The main export category

The total exports were approximately US$446 million. The main value exports included USD 65 million in salts, USD 59 million in mixed gold and gold bars, USD 39 million in paper products, USD 35 million in copper ore, USD 29 million in sugar, 26 million USD in rubber, USD 23 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 21 million in clothing, USD 19 million in iron ore and USD 13 million in banana.

 

The main import category

The total imports were approximately US$ 534 million. The main value imports included USD 58 million in fuel, USD 56 million in mechanical equipment, USD 43 million in land vehicles, USD 37 million in steel and steel products, USD 22 million in spare parts, USD 18 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 17 million in electronic appliances, USD 17 million in gasoline, USD 16 million in plastic products, and USD 12 million in beverage.

 

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 210 million, Vietnam USD 77 million, Thailand USD 54 million, Australia USD 38 million, and USA USD 10 million.

 

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 240 million, China USD 175 million, Vietnam USD 25 million, USA USD 19 million and Japan USD 15 million.

 

The August 2023 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
