The Lao foreign trade in April 2024 was valued at USD 1,122  million.

The value of import and export (excluding electricity) of Lao PDR in April 2024 reached USD 1,122 million, decreased by 13% compared to March 2024. In which export was USD 462 million, which decreased by 20% and import was USD 660 million, decreased by 2%. The top five export commodities were salt, mixed gold, copper ore, cassava and sugar, while the top five import commodities were diesel, land vehicles, mechanical equipment, steel and plastic products.

The value of import and export of Lao PDR in April 2024 reached USD 1,122  million.

The main export category

The total export value was approximately USD 462 million, decreased by 20% compared to March 2024. The main value exports included: USD 84 million in salt, USD 79 million in mixed gold and bullion, USD 40 million in copper ore, USD 32 million in cassava, USD 28 million in sugar, USD 23 million in bananas, USD 20 million in rubber and USD 16 million in cassava flour and USD 14 million in iron ore.

The main import category

The total import value was approximately USD 660 million, decreased by 2% compared to March 2024. The main value imports included: USD 96 million in diesel, USD 56 million in land vehicles (except motorcycles, and tractors), USD 36 million in Mechanical equipment (other than vehicle mechanics), USD 29 million in steel and steel products, USD 26 million in plastic utensils, USD 26 million in finished chemical products, USD 24 million in gasoline, USD 21 million in vehicle spare parts (including tires, mirrors, chains...), USD 18 million in electrical appliances and equipment,  and USD 4 million in Aluminum products.

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

Vietnam (USD 160 million), Thailand (USD 107 million), China (USD 103 million), Australia (USD 43 million), and Switzerland (USD 19 million).

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

Thailand (USD 336 million), China (USD 213 million), Vietnam (USD 33 million), the United States (USD 17 million), and South Korea (USD 12 million).

The value of import and export of Lao PDR for April 2024 does not include electricity. We will show when it is available.
