The main export category
The total export value was approximately USD 547 million, increased by 13% compared to May 2024. The main value exports included: USD 80 million in salt, USD 67 million in mixed gold, USD 40 million in paper, USD 29 million in rubber, USD 27 million in ore copper, USD 23 million in wasted wood, USD 17 million in sugar, USD 16 million in cassava flour in cassava flour, USD 12 million in banana and USD 8 million in cassava.
The main import category
The total import value was approximately USD 680 million, increased by 7% compared to May 2024. The main value imports included: USD 88 million in diesel, USD 67 million in land vehicles (except motorcycles, and tractors), USD 63 million in Mechanical equipment (other than vehicle mechanics), USD 51 million in electrical appliances and equipment, USD 39 million in steel and steel products, USD 36 million in finished chemical products, USD 24 million in plastic products, USD 22 million in gasoline, USD 21 million in vehicle spare parts (including tires, mirrors, chains...), and USD 6 million in Aluminum products.
The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR
China (USD 199 million), Vietnam (USD 115 million), Thailand (USD 100 million), USA (USD 20 million), and Switzerland (USD 18 million).
The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR
China (USD 271 million), Thailand (USD 258 million), Vietnam (USD 63 million), USA (USD 23 million), and Japan (USD 16 million).
