The first 6 months of Lao foreign trade in 2024 were valued at USD 7,754 million

The main export category

The total export value was approximately USD 3,702 million, decreased by 13.5% compared to the same period in 2023. The main value exports included: USD 558 million in salt, USD 371 million in mixed gold, USD 325 million in cassava, USD 250 million in ore copper and USD 222 million in paper.  

The main import category

The total import value was approximately USD 4,052 million, increased by 19% compared to the same period in 2023. The main value imports included: USD 590 million in diesel, USD 344 million in land vehicles, USD 314 million in Mechanical equipment, USD 210 million in steel and USD 197 million in electrical appliances.

The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR

China (USD 1,296 million), Vietnam (USD 929 million), Thailand (USD 766 million), Australia (USD 220 million) and USA (USD 87 million),

The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR

Thailand (USD 1,814 million), China (USD 1,494 million), Vietnam (USD 251 million), USA (USD 112 million), and Japan (USD 68 million).

The first 6 months of Lao foreign trade in 2024 did not include electricity. We will show when it is available.
