In order to facilitate the supply of superior and safe reformed species of cassava, particularly when importing from abroad, there is a need for an accurate and transparent system for the importing mechanism and the management of the supply chain for reformed cassava with in line with the law for the protection of the circulation of plants in Lao PDR. This is aimed at preventing the transmission of pests and restrict the spreading of highly destructive pests within the country. Therefore, the Department of Plantations has issued an instruction on the sanitary requirements for importing the reformed cassava plant species which states the condition permitted for the import of the reformed plant species, the documentary procedures, consideration and inspection at the plant quarantine border post and in order to obtain import permission for plants to be planted in Lao PDR. This instruction also has attached the request form to obtain permission to import the reformed cassava plant, and for planning of the import and internal production.
