The Department of Trade, Xishuangbanna Yunnan Province, China has informed the Luangnumtha Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce, Lao PDR of the regulations on the importation of agricultural products (Maize and Rice) to China. Generally, the importer has to notify the import to the CIQ officer and Customs at the border for the 3 categories below as follows:

  1. Ordinary trade:  Import with quota and with no quota
  • 1%  of Import tariff for quota import  for Maize (dry and seed), maize and rice (paddy)
  • Import tariff plus value add tax for no quota import of 20% for Maize (dry and seed), 65% for Maize and Rice (paddy) and additional 13% values add tax.
  1. Importation under compensation for replacing planting of opium with plantation projects is an import free of tariff and Value Added Tax
  2. Importation as border trading (people exchanging) is allowed tariff-free in the amount of 50 Kilogram per person per day

For imports through the Borhan International Checkpoint, the importer is requested to notify in advance the CIQ office and Customs at the Borhan Border Checkpoint for the purpose of importing through the MeungMung traditional checkpoint.
