On 24th August 2016, Thai media published news about Laemsabang customs authorities (Kingdom of Thailand) opened 20 containers that carry goods from Lao PDR through Nongkhai border checkpoint as transit route toward Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China. The containers were packed and transferred by Asia Transline Company. Thai customs authorities at Laemsabang seaport had inspected the containers and found that the containers carry logs and timber products (Siamese Rosewood, Burmese Rosewood, and Rosewood) that do not comply with charcoal transit permission and X-rays films declared at Nongkhai border checkpoint.

With respect to such the news, Lao customs authorities at Friendship Bridge 1 informed that from the initial inspection of documents and record of the X-ray machine at the checkpoint from June to 26th August 2016 they do not found the export of log and sawed timber. There are only records of charcoal exports from 05 companies (45 containers). Those 5 companies proceeded export procedures and documents in compliance with the law and regulations of the Lao PDR. At present, customs authorities and relevant agencies continue to investigate such case.
