The Third Meeting of Non-Tariff Measures Working Group was organized on 18th May 2017 at Lao Plaza Hotel by Department of Import and Export, Ministry of Industry and Commerce as an office of Trade Facilitation Secretariat and Non-Tariff Working Group (NTMs-WG), sponsored by the Second Trade Development Facility (TDF2) and hosted by Mr. Khemdeth Sihavong, Deputy Director General of Department of Import and Export. There were 40 representatives from public sectors who are members of the NTMs Working Group attended the meeting.
The meeting presented about progressive on the implementation of NTMs, the outcome and the revision of NTMs of industry and commerce sector as initial sector conducting the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA). The sector had shortened licensing procedure for the import of vehicle parts, raw petroleum, semi-processed petroleum for combination, distill, or produce in factories - aiming to create a convenient environment in operating business, reduce cost and time, and that will be a sample to other sectors to conduct RIA in the future. I addition, the participants have also learned about instruction on how to conduct RIA.
Mr. Khemdeth Sihavong, Deputy Director General of Department of Import and Export highly valued the NTMs-WG meeting and the attention of participants to the meeting. The participants were actively shared their opinion which made the objectives of this meeting met. After the meeting, Department of Import and Export will continue to improve NTMs with NTMs focal points and conduct RIA with other import-export sectors.
