DOSM has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American Society for Testing Material International (ASTM) for cooperation in voluntary standards and standards activities.
ASTM is a globally recognized leader in the development and publication of international construction and building standards. Today, ASTM produces some 13,000 documentary standards that are used worldwide to improve product quality, enhance health and safety, strengthen market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.
ASTM International standards are the passports to a successful trading strategy. High quality, market-relevant ASTM standards, developed in accordance with the guiding principles of the World Trade Organization, to facilitate trade by opening new markets and creating new trading partners for enterprises everywhere.
The DOSM has already adopted 122 ISO standards as Lao National Standards, DOSM will start a program to adopt ASTM and also be conducting a series of seminars on the “Benefits to Lao Industry Adopting International Standards”
With the Departments upgraded membership in ISO and a member of the ASTM International Global Alliance program, the National Standards Body of the Lao PDR can provide ISO and ASTM documentary voluntary standards in Laos to private and public sector customers directly. Copies of these international standards will be available in hard copy or soft copy in pdf format for a nominal fee.
