The dissemination meeting on roles, rights, and duties of the establishment of Central and Provincial National Trade Facilitation Committee was held on August 27-28, 2018 by DIMEX at Conference Hall, Administration Office of Luangnamtha Province. The meeting was chaired by Mr. (Ph.D) Keomorakoth Sidlakone, Deputy Director General of DIMEX and Mr. Khamlai Sypaseuth, Head of Laungnamtha Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Office (PAFO), attracting concerned sectors from 06 northern provinces, for instance, Phongsaly, Bokeo, Luangnamtha, Oudomxay, Luangprabang and Xayaburi to attend.
Mr. Khamlai Sypaseuth stated that in the era of regional and international economic integration, the Government of Lao PDR is committed to supporting trade facilitation in order to create a favorable environment for doing business in Lao PDR. Particularly, trade facilitation activities play a major role in reducing time, procedures for trading comply with trade regulations and international standards.
The meeting gave details on the rights and duties of the Provincial/Capital National Trade Facilitation Committee and the functions of the Trade Facilitation Secretariat as well as presenting the updated legal documents related to trade activities for better understanding of the concerned sectors and sharing their comments into the legal documents and the implementation of Provincial/Capital National Trade Facilitation Committee.
In addition, the meeting also gave details on the significance of Trade Facilitation, review and challenge of the implementation of Trade Facilitation Roadmap for 2017-2022 over the past year.
At the meeting, all the participants showed a lot of interest to the contents of the dissemination, raised the topic of scrap steel in Laungprabang province for discussion and proposed a list of substances added into legal documents related to prohibited goods on import or export.
