The export value of the Lao PDR from January to June 2019 reached US$ 2,849 million and the import value was about US$ 2,726 million and the trade balance was about US$ 123 million. There are more than 19 import and export trade partners, 5 countries which are border trading partners. Additionally, Thailand, China, and Vietnam are the largest value in imports and exports.

Main Export Category (Table 1).

The main export value categories for the first six months of 2019 on US$ 646 million of electricity, US$ 324 million of gold ore and US$ 244 million of copper and copper products. 

Main Import Category (Table 2).

The main import value category in the first six months of 2019 was US$ 324 million of diesel, US$ 240 million of tractors and motorcycles and US$ 218 million of steel and steel products.

The main export countries of Lao PDR are US$ 1,035 million in Thailand, US$ 812 million in China, US$ 499 million in Vietnam. The export value of electricity to Thailand was US$ 467 million, US$ 28 million in Vietnam and US$ 4 million in Cambodia. Additionally, the export of copper and copper products to Thailand was US$ 191 million, US$ 323 million of gold ore to China and US$ 113 million beverages to Vietnam.

The major importing countries of Lao PDR in the first 6 months which were Thailand US$ 1,510 million, China US$ 702 million, Vietnam US$ 292 million. The oil and diesel imported mainly from Thailand US$ 290 million and US$ 109 million of vehicles, besides of tractors and motorcycles from Thailand, imports from China are devices mechanically (besides mechanical vehicles) US$ 127 million, imports from Vietnam US$ 113 million of steel and iron and steel US Commercial Import of Vietnam's diesel US$ 3.4 million and besides the tractors and motorcycles US$ 30 million.
