According to the Notification on a traditional checkpoint, Dak Ta Ok (Xekong Province, Laos) and Nam Yang (Quang Nam Province, Vietnam), to be upgraded into an international checkpoint, No 2204 / PMO on 17 December 2019. The implementation should be conducted and coordinated between Xekong Province and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dak Ta Ok International Checkpoint is located in Xekong Province and can be seen as a connecting point between Thailand - Laos – Vietnam where is in southern Laos. Additionally, distance to Danang International Port is approximately 187 Km, which is from Vangtao International Crossing Point (Champasak, Laos)-Chong Mek International Checkpoint (Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand ), to Dak Ta Ok International Checkpoint-Nam Giang International Checkpoint (Quang Nam, Vietnam). Thus, Dak Ta Ok International Checkpoint has a shorter distance than a distance from Vangtao-Chong Mek to Phou Kua International Checkpoint (Attapue, Laos) – Bo E International Checkpoint (Kontum, Vietnam).
Furthermore, distance from Xekong to Dak Ta Ok International Checkpoint is approximately 123 km and Dak Ta Ok to Danang International Port, Vietnam is 147 km, thus Xekong to Danang port is 270 Km. The distance from Vangtao to Dak Ta Ok is 293 Km and Vangtao to Danang Port where transits to Dak Ta Ok are 440 Km. However, Vangtao to Phou Kua International Checkpoint will have to travel for 627 km.
