The textile and garment industry is a sector that Laos exports to many countries around the world. This industry can be seen as a labor-intensive sector that employed 118,585 workers or accounts for 61.29% of male workers and 38.71% of female workers. Furthermore, the textile and garment industry employs more than 26,054 people or accounts for 21.97% of the total industry.
According to statistics of garment exports in 2019, Laos exported to 55 countries around the world with the total value of US $ 212 million. The export countries are from Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
The highest exported clothing which was Germany worth about US$ 68 million, Japan worth nearly to US$ 21 million, Sweden worth approximately US$ 20 million, United Kingdom worth approximately US$ 14 million, Denmark worth US$ 12 million, Italy worth about US$ 11 million, Portugal worth nearly US$ 11 million and Unite State worth around US$ 8 million.
However, Laos still imports clothes from other countries, with a total value in 2019, approximately US$ 23 million. The highest import clothes were China with a value of US$ 9 million, US$ 6 million of Vietnam, US$ 5 million of Thailand, more than US$ 1 million of France, and US$ 1 million of India.
