The imports and exports of Lao PDR in March 2020 achieved US$ 804 million, including US$ 343 million of export and approximately US$ 461 million of import, therefore, the trade deficit was US$ 118 million
The main export category
The total of exports in March was approximately US$ 343 million. The main exports products which have approximate value as: US$ 37 million of copper ore and products, US$ 25 million of copper and copper products, US$ 18 million of banana, US$ 24 million of wood pulp and paper, US$ 19 million of beverages (water, juice, energy…), US$ 35 million of cassava, US$ 17 million of clothing, US$ 14 million of sugar, US$ 16 million of fruits (water melons, tamarine, mango…) and US$ 37 million of cows, buffalos.
The main import category
The total of imports in March was approximately US$ 461 million. The main import products which have approximate value as US$ 36 million of land vehicles (excluding motorcycles, tractors), US$ 46 million of diesel, US$ 35 million of mechanical equipment (excluding motor vehicles), US$ 28 million of steel, steel products and magnetic steel, US$ 20 million of beverages (water, condensed water, energized drink.), US$ 12 million of spare parts,…), US$ 12 million of gasoline and special gasoline, US$ 14 million of electricity, US$ 14 million of plastic products and US$ 23 million of livestock.
The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR
The main export countries of Lao PDR included Thailand US$ 91 million, China US$ 119 million Vietnam US$ 74 million, Japan US$ 9 million and Germany US$ 7 million.
The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR
The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand US$ 272 million, China US$ 77 million, Vietnam US$48 million, Japan US$ 13 million and Korea 13 million.
