According to the 2017 Lao PDR Industrial Development Report by the Department of Industry and Handicrafts, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Table 6 shows the number of factories and investments by industry type. There were 26 factories which produced steel, cast iron and other iron, these products were for domestic use. There are only a few factories that have had the capacity to export steel and rebar.

In addition, the Department of Import and Export, Ministry of Industry and Trade, reported that in 2019 the value of export rebar was USD 898,275 or 2,242 tons and in 11 months of 2020 was 3,118 tons or a value of USD 1,332,845.

According to the statistics of 2018 by the Rebar Producers Group, there were more than 10 rebar factories in both large and small scale with majority were certified by the Lao National Standard and ISO 9001-2015 certification. The factories could produce rebar into 2 sizes which were 8-12 mm and 10-22 mm. Both size have had a capacity to produce 300,000 - 500,000 tons of rebar per year.

According to the Vientiane Mai Newspaper (https://v2.vientianemai.net/archives/12468), on 20 November 2020, at the Nong Nok Khien International Checkpoint at Champasak Province (Lao-Cambodian border), Lao PDR exported 300 tons of rebar to Cambodia. The rebar was a size of 25 with were certified by the Lao National Standard ISO 9001:2015 and    SR24 SD30 SD40. These exports are a joint venture between two companies: Khunpheung-Vientiane Steel Co., Ltd. and Khounkham Steel Industry Co., Ltd. Currently, the plant has a capacity of 300,000 tons per year and has distributors nationwide.
