The imports and exports of Lao PDR in July 2023 were valued at US$ 1,025 million, including US$ 429 million in export and approximately US$595 million in imports, therefore, the trade deficit was US$166 million.
The main export category
The total exports were approximately US$429 million. The main value exports included USD 55 million in salts, USD 42 million in paper products, USD 35 million in copper ore, USD 31 million in iron ore, USD 30 million in mixed gold and gold bars, USD 23 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 23 million in sugar, USD 20 million in clothing, USD 20 million in beverage and 13 USD in footwear.
The main import category
The total imports were approximately US$ 595 million. The main value imports included USD 65 million in diesel, USD 56 million in spare parts, USD 49 million in land vehicles, USD 45 million in mechanical equipment, USD 38 million in steel and steel products, USD 34 million in pulp and paper scrap, USD 24 million in electronic appliances, USD 20 million in plastic products, USD 20 million in gasoline, and USD 14 million in fertilizer.
The five main exporting countries of Lao PDR
The main exporting countries of Lao PDR included China USD 196 million, Vietnam USD 90 million, Thailand USD 48 million, Hongkong USD 13 million, and USA USD 11 million.
The five main importing countries of the Lao PDR
The main importing countries of Laos included: Thailand USD 254 million, China USD 192 million, Vietnam USD 29 million, USA USD 27 million and South Korea USD 12 million.
The July 2023 statistic does not include the value of export electric power; therefore, we will update later when it is available.
