Due to Thailand is currently resolves issues on ivory trade to reduce risks on trade punishment measures under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) which Department of Trade Negotiations and Department of  Business  Development has been working together to disseminate. The purpose is to build knowledge and understanding of duties under CITES, including the implementation of regulations/related legals, and inspecting local ivory trade of citizens, ivory traders, ivory owners, and foreigners.

The aim of CITES is to protect endangered species of wild fauna and flora by controlling international trade through permission system. The illegal ivory commerce is one of the issues that party members pay attention to and Thailand is a country that being followed closely on the control of ivory trade. Hence, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand created publicize plan on resolution of ivory trade in Thailand and disseminate to build up knowledge and understanding on Thailand’s duty according to CITES, including related rules and regulations; local ivory control to citizens, ivory traders and notice to foreigners of the prohibition on ivory trading, and not to export or import to Thailand.
