The purpose of this meeting is to inform private sectors on survey plan of NTMs; introducing basic knowledge on trade barrier, categorizing NTMs, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Sanitary and Technical Trade Barriers to private sector; and to inform the purpose and scope of the survey and analyze.
Ms. Manivone Vongxay, Deputy Director General of Import and Export Department mentioned that the review of NTM of Lao PDR consist of 2 elements: 1) Reviewing interior measures (import) and 2) Survey oversea measures (export) that Lao exporters experience. For the interior survey, Department of Import and Export has completed summarizing and categorizing NTMs and had published in Lao Trade Portal Website which resulting from coordination work with NTM Review sub-working Group (NRS). The oversea survey plan scheduled for 3-4 months by EDC Consultant Company, leading by Dr. Prabir De, expert of NTM project under the support information of Import and Export Department.
The meeting was organized in energetic atmosphere, with the exchange information and resulted its aim. The private sectors acknowledged and agreed on the survey plan due to number of countries have already implemented. In order to boost Lao exporting business competitiveness aboard, the private sector will cooperate on the interview and distribute useful information for the survey.
