The Laos-Myanmar friendship bridge located in Houy Koum Village, 13 kilo meters to the north from Xieng Kok Village, Luangnamtha Province, Lao PDR and about 500 meters to the south of Xieng Larp, Thakilek District, Shan State, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, linking main road No. 17 of Laos and main load No. 4 of Myannar.
The bridge started to construct on 16th February2013, it was expected to complete in 30 months but finished 5 month ahead its schedule. It has 691,6 meters length, 10.9 meters width. It has two lanes with 8.5 meter width and two sidewalk with 1.2 meter width each. It is a bridge with 360 meters length, 12 meters height with metal in the middle and 331.6 meter length with cement in both side. The entrance from the immigration to Laos has 758 meters length and from the immigration to Myanmar has 610 meters length. The bridge construction worth 26 million US dollars compare to the immigration worth 32 million US dollars, under interior fund of the government of Lao PDR and Myanmar. The bridge was decided to bare 10 wheels truck for 75 tons, 7.0 Richter scale earthquake vibration and ship level 500 tons.
H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned that: the construction of the first Laos-Myanmar friendship bridge is to fulfill the desire of governments, as well as the two nations Laos-Myanmar, and in consistent with the trend of the collaboration for development between regional countries in linking Mekong Sub Region Countries according to East-West Economic corridor, and to prepare for the ASEAN Economic Committee (AEC) in 2015.
Lao PDR will cooperate with Myanmar applying this bridge for the maximum interests for Lao and Burmese people as well as to boost cooperation on trade, investment, and tourism of the two countries and for our regional level.
