In order to implement and extend an Order of the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry no. 2109/MAF, dated 27 April 2016 on increasing strictness in applying phytosanitary measures to respond to the warning of EU, aiming to ensure that the export of plants and agricultural products from Lao PDR to EU will be proper, transparent, and consistent with phytosanitary requirements of the EU. Therefore, MAF issued a Notification on Increasing Attention to Certify Phytosanitary and Agricultural Products of the Lao PDR to export to the European Union No. 1046/DoA, dated 26 May 2016.
The notification stipulates that all plants and agricultural products of Lao PDR to be exported to the EU shall register their garden cultivation/farm, packaging house, and export companies with Plantation Sector in Provinces and Vientiane Capital with a certification from Agriculture and Forestry office in district.
Moreover, the export of plants and agricultural products to the European Union must be examined for Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) to ensure that it will not be exceeded the set standards and has no microbe especially Salmonella and Escherichia Coli together with a certificate of laboratory testing that is verified and certified ISO 1725. Before issuing the Phytosanitary Certificate concerned the authority shall increase attention with respect to inspecting, and randomly collecting samples from actual products to prevent infection as being specified by the European Union.
The notification became effective on 26 May 2016.
